To hide whatsapp status update from certain people, follow the simple steps below:
1. On your whatsapp status update tab, tap the three dots at the top of the screen.
2. Select the “Status privacy” option from the pop up.
3. From the next screen that appears, you can either exempt some of your contacts from seeing your status update or allow only some of your contacts to see your status update.
4. To exempt some people from seeing your status update, select the second option i.e. “My contacts except…”
5. On the next screen that appears, select the contacts you want to hide your whatsapp status updates from and click on the “tick” button with green background that is seen at the bottom-right of your screen.
That all! The contact or contacts you selected cannot see your status updates again.
To unblock them, repeat the same process as done above and uncheck the contacts.
How to allow only some selected contacts to view your status update
Follow these steps:
1. On your whatsapp status update tab, tap the three dots at the top of the screen.
2. Select the “Status privacy” option from the pop up.
3. To allow only some selected contacts to view your whatsapp status update, select the third option i.e. “Only share with…”
4. Select the contacts that you would like to be the only people that are permitted to see your status update and click on the “Good” button with green background that is seen at the bottom-right of your screen.
That’s all! Only the selected people would be allowed to view your status updates.
To revert the changes, just select the first option i.e. “My contacts” option and that all!
The next in line is to show you how to view someone’s status update without the person knowing you have done so.
How to view someone’s whatsapp status update without their knowing you have done so
This feature was added by whatsapp when they introduced their status update feature. A similar feature like this already existed on whatsapp- the feature that allows you hide your last seen from contacts.
As with the hide last seen feature, viewing someone’s status update without their knowing you have done so is two sided, i.e. if you enable this feature, you will view people’s status updates without their knowing and also, you will not be able to see people that have viewed yours.
There is a way around this though, you can enable this feature, view someone’s status update and disable it! Cool right?
To achieve this, just follow the simple steps below:
1. On your whatsapp chats tab, tap the three dots at the top right of the screen.
2. Select the “Settings” option
3. Click on the “Account” option
4. Click on the “Privacy” option
5. Scroll to the end of the screen, and check the “Read receipts” button as shown in the picture below:
Once unchecked, you cannot see people that viewed your whatsapp status updates and people cannot see that you have viewed theirs.
To revert this, simply check the “Read receipts” button as well.
The last one is on how to mute some contacts i.e. how to avoid seeing some people’s status update.
How to avoid seeing some people’s status update (how to mute some whatsapp status updates)
This is quite simple and fast to do. Just follow the steps below:
1. The next time the contact posts an update, click and hold the contact’s update and the muting option will pop up as shown in the picture below:
2. Just click on “mute” and that’s all! You won’t be notified when that contact posts a status update again.
The list of muted contacts would be shown at the bottom of the status update tab and they will appear grayed out.
To unmute the contact, just click and hold the muted contact until a similar pop up appears and then select “Unmute” and that’s all!
