A proxy server is a server which could be located at any point on an internet connection that acts as a middle man (intermediary) between a server and a client (your browser). Proxy servers allow you access blocked sites which may not be available for your location or may require logging in to view its content.

                It also hides your identity thereby, making you browse the internet anonymously. Some proxy servers help to improve browsing performance by accelerating requests by clients (browsers). Some of them are paid for, free, public, etc.
